Fredrick Asare Set for South African Move After Successful Trial

Durban City FC is set to welcome Ghanaian goalkeeper Fredrick Asare on a two-year deal following his impressive showing during a recent trial. The newly promoted South African Premier League side has identified Asare as a key piece in strengthening their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper, who recently parted ways with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, is currently a free agent. He spent three seasons with Kotoko after joining from Accra Lions in 2022, during which he served as club captain and helped the team secure the 2025 MTN FA Cup title. Despite losing his starting spot later in the season, Asare still recorded seven clean sheets in 15 appearances.

Internationally, Asare earned recognition as the only home-based player in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers—underscoring his growing profile.

Having arrived in Durban on July 1, the goalkeeper is expected to undergo medicals and finalize the paperwork soon. His experience and leadership are seen as vital assets for a Durban City team aiming to make a strong impression in their debut top-flight campaign.

If all goes through, this move marks a fresh chapter for Asare—one that could elevate his career on the continental stage.
